Ben Carson

Ben Carson is an American author and retired neurosurgeon. In 2008 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush, and he delivered the keynote address at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast.

Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan, the younger of two children. He graduated from Yale University and the University of Michigan Medical School. He became a neurosurgeon and professor at Johns Hopkins, and became the youngest division director in Hopkins history at age 33. He is the first surgeon to successfully separate twins conjoined at the head. He retired from Johns Hopkins in mid-2013.

In addition to being a surgeon Dr. Carson has written six bestselling books, and has served on the boards of Kellogg, Costco, and the Academy of Achievement. He is an emeritus fellow of the Yale Corporation, the governing body of Yale University. He and his wife Candy have three sons, and they reside in West Friendship, Maryland.
