Jonathan Wells

Jonathan Wells

Forty-five years ago, Jonathan Wells was a geology and biology student—and a Darwinist. Then he dropped out of school to drive a New York City taxicab, got drafted, and spent two years in the U. S. Army before going to prison for a year and a half for refusing to serve during the Vietnam War.

After his release in the late 1960s he was repelled by the violent excesses of the Left, built a cabin in the mountains of Northern California, and became a critic of materialism in general and Darwinism in particular. He subsequently earned a Ph.D. in theology from Yale University, where he studied the 19th century Darwinian controversies, and a Ph.D. in biology from the University of California at Berkeley, where he studied development and evolution.

Dr. Wells is the author of Icons of Evolution: Why Much of What We Teach About Evolution is Wrong (Regnery) and is currently a Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute in Seattle, Washington, where he lives with his family.
