Although he started his career as an engineer, he is actually a historian at heart with a love of history and politics. He served for a decade in various roles in the Republican Party of Virginia, rising to the positions of 8th Congressional District Chairman and Budget Director for the state party, before moving to a new career as a national security attorney in the Government.
He is an avid reader of history, particularly American, European, and Middle Eastern history of the 20th century. He is also an huge fan of sports books, particularly baseball and football. Some of his favorite sports books include Big Hair and Plastic Grass, Dan Epstein’s wonderful ode to baseball in the 1970s, Dirk Hayhurst’s Bullpen Chronicles, and Bill Pennington’s Billy Martin, as in-depth a biography as you will find about one of baseball’s most compelling personalities.
He is married to his wonderful wife Cara, a native Long Islander and clinical psychologist who has enthusiastically embraced his love of the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens. They have one son, Andrew, a ten-month-old who is just learning to maneuver himself around. They live in Fairfax, Virginia. The family loves to travel — Colonial Williamsburg is a favorite location — and working on their Baltimore sports-themed man cave.
