Let me get the negatives out of the way: I would have preferred that Ann Coulter's Treason were written with more organization, such as subheadings for the title chapters and section headings within chapters, that would help me to find facts that I want to recall to tell my friends and family. The prose could have been tightened up in a few places, especially when it became repetitive. These issues are not important in a short weekly column, but are important for a book. So I deducted one star for form and style
However, I give Treason four stars for content. This is the first coherent overview of the entire "McCarthy" era that I have read that corresponds to the facts of the time. Even before the revelations from US and Soviet intelligence files that affirmed that prominent liberal icons like the Rosenbergs, I. F. Stone and Alger Hiss were paid Soviet agents, it was quite clear that modern Hollywood and the Democrats were praising people like Lillian Hellman who were allegedly victimized by being called "communist," NOT because the accusation was false, but because communists are not bad! It was only outing them that was bad, because when people are forced to admit they were communists, it makes other people not like them, which is bad. Sort of like homosexuals. And especially kicking communists out of the TV and film industry, denying them the opportunity to secretly bias the presentation of American versus communist values and viewpoints in our entertainment, was an abridgement of free speech (even though we are not supposed to be free to understand the real views and goals of the people making movies).
So the modern liberals' position is: "People who were communists should have been allowed to deny they were communists because revealing they were communists would subject them to persecutiuon from people who don't like communists." It is basically the same endorsement of lying about issues affecting the public interest because, say liberals, it's none of our business if the president lies, or if people who love communism are stealing nuclear weapons plans.
Modern liberal recountings of the "McCarthy era" always focus on the adverse consequences to the poor communists, and never consider whether or not they were in fact communists, and whether communists deserved a little adversity in light of the things they had done to millions of people in Europe and Asia. It is exactly equivalent to the line of liberal screeds against the imprisonment of people who killed police or FBI agents.
To summarize,I think Ann Coulter is very witty and has done a tremendous service by helping us wake up from the fictions about the early 1950s and communism that are constantly reiterated in our movies and TV programs, from Academy Awards shows to movies set in the 1950s (e.g. Woody Allen's The Front, Jim Carrey's The Majestic). I just wish she had done another revision of her book so it could be even more persuasive and timeless.

Ann has dared to research, write and proclaim that upon which most fear to tread. Really a follow up to Slander and could be titled, "What Injustice Ensues When you Tolerate a Liberal Media". You elect Liberals and you never hear how they are destroying your liberty. This is a must read and a must proclaim to the ignorant masses.
