How prominent liberals are leading a "Big Lie" propaganda war against conservatives
. . . and how the media is letting them get away with it

Slander

by Ann Coulter

Fighting dirty is nothing new for liberals. But recently, writes conservative commentator Ann Coulter, things have gotten worse. Now, it seems, there's no limit to what leading liberals in politics and the media will say to discredit -- even destroy -- their conservative opponents. Result? "The spirit of the First Amendment has been effectively repealed for conservative speech."

But Coulter isn't taking this lying down. In Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right, she exposes those carrying out this campaign of intimidation, reveals their brutal techniques and tactics, and refutes the vicious slanders and outright lies that so far have gone unanswered. She also reveals the appalling double-standard by which our "watchdog" media let liberals get away with statements for which conservatives would have been vilified.

Coulter not only quotes the lies, she names the liars - including ...

  • THE PROMINENT DEMOCRAT who claimed -- absurdly -- that "The Christian Coalition was a strong force in Germany."

  • THE TIME MAGAZINE REPORTER who sneered about President George W. Bush, "The only thing that could explain this love of tax cuts is a lowered IQ."

  • THE CABLE-NEWS TALK-SHOW HOST who, during the Clinton impeachment proceedings, said that "the person Ken Starr has reminded me of facially all this time was Heinrich Himmler"

  • THE CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER who said, "In South Africa, the status quo was called racism. In Germany, it was called fascism. Now in Britain and the U.S., it is called conservatism."

  • THE NETWORK NEWS REPORTER who, in the wake of September 11, warned that Christian pro-life activists posed a threat to America comparable to that from Islamic terrorists!

  • THE FAMOUS ACTRESS who said, "One thing that gives me pleasure is how ugly [Linda Tripp] is. That's a karmic point. She deserves to be ugly."

  • THE NETWORK NEWS ANCHOR who praised Cuba's school system, which indoctrinates students with hard-core Communist propaganda, as being among "the revolution's great success stories."

  • THE DEMOCRAT CONGRESSMAN who spoke against a Republican tax cut by saying, "It's not 'spic' or 'nigger' anymore. They say, 'Let's cut taxes"

  • THE NEW YORK TIMES REPORTER who wrote in a straight news story that "Evangelical Christians are more easily led than other kinds of voters."

  • THE HOLLYWOOD DIRECTOR who declared after 9/11, "When I see an American flag flying, it's a joke. This present government in America I just find disgusting."

Coulter uncovers depths of liberal dishonesty, vindictiveness and hate-mongering that will shock even the most jaded political observers. Full of direct, fully-sourced quotations, Slander is as devastating as a prosecutor's brief -- but crackles with Coulter's trademark wit and humor. A few hors d'oeuvres from the banquet:

"As there is less to dispute, liberals have become more bitter and angry. The Soviet threat has been vaporized, women are not prevented from doing even things they should be, and the gravest danger facing most black Americans today is being patronized to death. And yet, still somehow, Tom Delay (mild-mannered Republican Congressman from Texas) poses a monumental threat to democracy as we know it. ... For his evident belief in a Higher Being, Delay is compared to savage murderers and genocidal lunatics on the pages of the New York Times. ("History teaches that when religion is injected into politics -- the Crusades, Henry VIII, Salem, Father Coughlin, Hitler, Kosovo -- disaster follows.")

"What liberals mean by 'goosestepping' or 'ethnic cleansing' is generally something along the lines of 'eliminating taxpayer funding for the National Endowment for the Arts.' But they can't say that, or people would realize they're crazy. So instead they accuse Republicans of speaking in 'code words.' This is one of the most enraging twists on the left's refusal to debate. Since authentically racist behavior would be apparent on its face, the concept of 'code words' allows liberals to call anyone a racist."
"Despite the constant threat of the 'religious right' in America, there is evidently no such thing as the 'atheist left.' In a typical year, the New York Times refers to either 'Christian conservatives' or the 'religious right' almost two hundred times. But in a Lexis-Nexis search of the entire New York Times archives, the phrases 'atheist liberals' or 'the atheist left' do not appear once. Only deviations from the left-wing norm merit labels."
"A central component of liberal hate speech is to make paranoid accusations based on their own neurotic impulses, such as calling Republicans angry, hate-filled, and mean. With no sense of self-irony, the left spitefully stereotypes Republicans as -- among other loathsome characteristics -- spiteful stereotypers."
"Liberalism's leverage is not that it has broad support but precisely that it doesn't. Who listens to NPR? Who, outside of New York City, reads the New York Times? Who claims to be 'frightened' of George W. Bush? The answer is: People who are desperately eager to associate themselves with 'respectable opinion' -- as opposed to actual, widespread, local opinion believed by the riff-raff. To be one of the tony people you have to be a liberal."
"Only politicians with nothing to hide dare risk displeasing the New York Times editorial page. There is no possibility, for example, that Jesse Helms could have remained in the United States Senate if he had killed a girl at Chappaquidick like Democratic Senator Teddy Kenney; if he had been a former Ku Klux Klanner like Democratic Senator Robert Byrd; if he had molested staffers like pro-choice liberal Republican Bob Packwood; or if he were a half-wit like pro-choice liberal Republican Jim Jeffords."
"The media elites covering national politics would be indistinguishable from the Democratic Party except the Democratic Party isn't liberal enough. A higher percentage of the Washington press corps voted for Clinton in 1992 than did this demographic category: 'Registered Democrats.'"
"Republican views must be accompanied by a conspicuous warning, 'Partisan Conservative Opinion Coming!' Neutral news slots are reserved for Democrats exclusively. 'Balance' is created by having a liberal host a debate between a liberal and a moderate Republican."
"There's a reason the left's rhetoric bears such a striking resemblance to some of the nuttier religions: Abhorring real religions, liberals refuse to condemn what societies have condemned for thousands of years -- e.g., promiscuity, divorce, illegitimacy, homosexuality. Consequently, the normal human instinct to condemn something bubbles up against a legion of quite modern vices, such as smoking, fur, red meat, excessive consumption, and land development." add to cart

A biting, funny, sometimes incredibly profound, occasionally over the top treatise on the attack tactics of the looney left. Especially well put is how complicit the media is, how the libs tend to resort to personal name calling instead of finding facts. My favorite point of hers is that if people really knew what the Democrats stood for, they would boil them in oil. I alternated between laughter and anger. Highly recommended.

As a retired Marine who was previously shielded by the safe surroudings of the "military right," in my endeavors to self-educate for survival among the liberal masses of New Jersey, I found Slander to be ironcially "liberating." Having been faced with a reentry into civilian life and reconnecting with lifelong friends who are lovable but loud mouthed liberals with absolutely have no clue about the big picture, I set out to begin educating myself for an informed defense. In my previous safe environment of 26 years I became somewhat lazy because I never had to defend what I believed. I was surrounded by a majority of Republicans who "got it" and "gave" of themselve to defend what was dear and enduring. Having left Washington, DC to return to NJ I found myself struggling to catch up and arm myself with the best defense against the libelists and liberals that prevail in this region. I found Ms. Coulter's book to be inspiring and I was compelled to finish it the same day I purchased it. I feel better prepared to duel with my Democrat acquaintances and to defend the views for which I gave 26 years of my life. It's onto her book Treason and every other resource I can cram into my cranium to make up for lost time when life was simple and I was safely allied with Marines who also belonged to the conservative right and were willing to die for what they believed. I am grateful to Ms. Coulter for opening new doors and igniting the spark that makes me determined to do my part in supporting and promoting the "right" way to do things. The most informative and inspiring book I have had the pleasure to devour!
