I highly recommend buying this book. I've read the reviews here and find that some reviewers here are ignorant about Islam and Christianity. They have villianized Christianity and elevated Islam to Sainthood. These leftists have not provided any evidence to show that Islam is peaceful. In an attempt to divert the audience away from the absence of peace in Islam, these Leftist are pointing out the crimes committed by the Crusaders. They staunchly refuse to admit that Islamic history is littered with violence. Like many have wrote, Muslims have committed much genocide throughout history and even to modern times. If only there was a war crimes tribunal that existed in the days of the Muslim expansion, the Muslims would have to serve life sentence at the Hague. Unfortunately, the war crimes tribunal isn't effective today as they have not brought to justice Muslims who have murdered 2 millions Christians in Southern Sudan. Countless other Christians are being massacred in Indonesian and Nigeria. And you have to count the discriminatory treatment Christians get in all other Muslim countries.
I have a problem with many reviewers who keep using the term, "Islamic Crusades." This term is inaccurate as the Muslims have a special name for genocide. That term is called "Jihad" or holy war. It was Jihad against non-Muslims that resulted in the crusades. The crusades, as a few reviewers here have written correctly, is in self-defense. It was to take back land that the Muslims stole from the Christians.
Now one reviewer wrote that two wrongs don't make a right. This is flawed logic. When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, should the United States fight back or do nothing? If the United States did nothing the Japanese would still own China, Korea, Vietnam and the Phillipines today. America would have lost the war in the Pacific. We would have a Japanese Empire in that would threaten our Western coast. Or perhaps we Americans would be speaking Japanese today and worship the Emperor of Japan as god.
Here is another example of the flawed logic of two wrongs don't make a right. If we were to apply this to Nazi Germany, then all of Europe would be speaking German today. Hitler would have become the new Roman Emperor. The Jews would have been completely wiped out from the face of the earth and there will be no one to save them. Injustice would NOT be served if the 'two wrongs don't make a right' was applied to war.
I like how one reviewer wrote that there wasn't two wrongs. The first wrong was the Muslim Jihad against the whole world. The Crusades was merely a reaction in self-defense to Islamic Jihad. There was no second wrong. The crusades was the correct response. True, the Crusaders were uneducated and killed fellow Christians in the Middle East, but nevertheless their willness to act in self-defense made the Muslim think twice about ever invading the West again. Not only was the crusades an act in self-defense, it was an attempt to recover stolen land that the Muslims illegally took away from Christians. The land the Muslims stole belonged to Christians who inhabited that land.
I agree with another reviewer who wrote that if Islam had succeeded in its world conquest through Jihad, today we would all be bowing towards Mecca. Perhaps we would be involved with Terrorism in an attempt to force another culture, people group or religion into submitting to Allah and Mohammed.
If you are a Leftist, and you believe that Israel should withdraw from Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem because the Jewish are the occupiers and oppressors, then you should be consistant with your opinion. The Muslims were occupiers and oppressors that took away Christian land. They should give it back to the Christians. And if you think the Palestianians have the right to arm resistance to kick out the Jews from the occupied territories, then you should NOT have a problem with Christian Crusades in their attempt to kick out the Muslims from occupied Christian territories. The fact that Leftist support the Palestianians and oppose the Crusades is a contradiction.

I see an attempt by liberal reviewers to cover up the crimes of Islam by telling people not to bother with reading this book. It is interesting to note that the definition of a liberal is suppose to be someone that is open-minded. Yet I see how liberals here are trying to discourage people from reading this book by bad mouthing this book. Liberals are trying to censor the freedom of expression and only want people to read books that favor their viewpoint. They aren't true liberals; but true hypocrites!

There is a consistant pattern in Islam since it's founding 1500 years ago. It has destroyed numerous nations, cultures, religions, languages and genocided millions of people in it's quest to force the world to worship Allah and Mohammed. Robert Spencer wrote a bad book. It's bad because he did NOT expand on the atrocities that Muslims have committed around the world. Since the founding of Islam, Muslims have killed millions of countless people groups and erased thousands of cultures. Today, those religions, cultures and languages don't exist anymore thanks to Islam. These people groups' culture had been hijacked by Islam and now they speak, read and write only Arabic and worship Allah. It is sad to see how destructive the Islamic religion has been worldwide. I morn the lost of such valuable sociological, linguistical, psychological and historical information that we could have gleamed from these extinct societies.

Don't waster you time reading the news without first reading Robert Spencer's book. This book will open your eyes to why there is so much Islamic Terrorism around the world. Remember, before 9/11, the Muslims bombed the world trade center. This was when Clinton was president. America wasn't even in Iraq yet. This fact shows our current occupation of Iraq isn't the reason why Muslims are blowing up innocent people in Britain, Spain and America. Muslims are terrorizing the West because they still hold to the dream of defeating non-Muslims and converting them to Muslims. They secretly want to conquer the world. This is what the Koran and the Hadith teaches.

You don't find too many books that talk about the truth. This is one of them.
After reading this book I've come to teh realization that one of the reasons why Islam is terrorizing the West is because they are jealous of our accomplishments. The Judao-Christian world is strong economically and dominates popular culture. Even in Islamic countries, Muslims secretly watch American movies, listen to American music and dress like Westerners. Our restaurants are all over the world (McDonalds, etc...) The Muslims are jealous because the Koran teaches them that Islam is suppose to be the superior religion and culture. Yet they find themselves are one of the poorest cultures in the world despite their oil resources. According to Islam, the Muslims should be economically superior and their culture and religion should be dominant. That is not the case. That's because Islam is backward and is not the truth.
Despite Islamic Jihad and the atrocities that they have committed worldwide throughout their 1500 years of existance, we should still love the Muslim people and help them come out of their darkness. But in order to help Muslims out of their darkness, we need to understand what Islam is all about and their history. This book allows the reader to understand what Islam is all about without all that polically correctness that prevades our media and schools. I highly recommend this book.

Right off the bat, Mr. Spencer makes the mistake of assuming that God is a Trinity, God is Jesus and that Jesus is the son of God. More confusion and darkness could be found perhaps swiming in the bottom of the ocean on a cloudy night! At any rate, it's good to read something that lacks knowledge in order to compare it to something that has knowledge in order to know it's intrinsic value. I would ask any sane person "If you can't defend yourself from oppression, then what recourse would you have?" Certainly had the U.S. not entered the two World Wars we would have had different outcomes, and last time I checked the majority of the participants in the 2 World Wars were Christian (the Ottomans were Muslim) and frankly warfare , justified or not, has been endemic to our world civilization in the last 100 years, with the West certainly in the lead! At any rate, one should remember that "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" and "turn the other cheek" are not incompatible, simply put the give the person who has been wronged two options and forgiveness is the better of the two. I would encourage all who read this to read the Qur'an for yourselves so that you can see for yourselves that Muslims believe in Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (peace be upon them) as well as Adam, David Solomon, Joseph, Jonah, Isaac, Ishmael, Jacob, and more than we have been given knowledge of (peace be upon them all), and that these Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them all) called the people to only worship God, to fear God and to obey God. God who is only One does not need our worship, we need Him, and any person who examines the facts and the data concerning the Qur'an will come to the conclusion that this Book could not have been written or conceived by any man. Unfortunately for Mr.Spencer his digs and jibes at Islam cannot extinguish God's Light, God grants Guidance to whom He wills and we should remember that the stories of the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon the them) are not myths and legends but are true and yes Jesus (peace be upon him) never died, he is in fact waiting to return to clear his name because he will break the cross, kill the pigs and abolish the jizyah tax (tax imposed on non Muslims under the protection of the Muslims) because no religion will be accepted except Islam. May God Guide you all and set your affairs in order. Peace.
This book is like a 5 star hotel. Muslims don't want you to know that their religion promotes Islamofacists who want convert the entire world to Islam. Robert Spencer makes a strong point about the Trinity. Yes God is three in one and one in three. Every human being has at least three parts. There is the Mind, Body and Soul/Spirit. If a human has three parts and is still one person, then it is more than possible for God to have three parts and still be ONE God!

Great book!!!! It finally talks about the true nature of Islam, which is totally violent. Muslims boast that they expanded their empire within a period of 100 years. They consider this to be the glorious times of Islam, celebrated throughout the Muslim world and admired by Western liberals. Yet, it was these 100 years of expansion that they wiped out Christianity throughout the Middle East, Central Asia, North Africa, and brutalized India. They conquered Spain in 711 AD and invaded southern France (until their defeat by Charles Martel), they conquered the southern islands of Italy, and later butchered 1 million Coptic Christians of Egypt. In 1111 AD, the muslims violated their peace with India and invaded, smashing Hindu temples along the way and building their Mosques on top of them. I can go on, but this book is fantastic and exposes what really happened.

MY PERSPECTIVE: It is funny how a self-professed "expert" comes along with all of the trappings of a Islamic subject-matter-expert and all of the right-wing "blind-followers" come out and praise his immature work of revisionist history. Adolph Hitler hacked out a "book" once too. How many people today say "Mien Kampf" (My Struggles) was a wonderful piece of work?
Mr. Spencer is no more an expert on Southwest Asia (AKA "middle-east" – an ignorant British geography inaccuracy), and it's primary religion, than George W. Bush is! As a matter of fact I wonder how much indirect involvement Mr. Spencer has with DUBYA and Herr Rove. Even to the point of relegating him to the level of the recent White House paid journalists (i.e. Armstrong et al). What better way to foment mindless religious hatred in a back-door effort to promote this pointless "international high crime" in Iraq!

Spencer's book is brilliant. His background is solid. He has an MA in Religious Studies and has been studying Islamic theology, law, and history in depth since 1980. He is not making up history for the fun of it.

In answer to the person supporting Islam and comparing jihadists to those fighting against abortion in God's name, I want to say this. The people fighting abortion are fighting to stop killings. Muslim Jihadists are fighting to kill. Jihadists and Islam cannot be compared to Christians and Christianity in any way, shape, or form. The God that Christians worship and the god of Islam are not the same.
I look forward to reading Mr. Spencer's book. It's about time history is corrected and Islam is exposed.
This book is wonderful. Robert Spencer is a moderate who provides a balance view of Islam. He is not an extremist in any sense and doesn't advocate violence towards Muslims. Instead, he advocates loving them and helping Muslims to reform their Jihad ideology so that it would not be a physical form of domination but a peaceful one that is void of violence and aggression. Reading Spencer's book is refreshing. It's definitely worth buying.
Robert has tactfully written a historical book on the religion of Islam. It is an informative, balance and sensitive approach to the topic.

This book hits the nail right on the head. It's about time that westerners read the QURAN with a critical eye. My compliments to Robert Spenser.
This book quotes directly from the Islamic Quran and the Hadith. I have a Quran and have checked the references and the verses match up word for word. Spencer does an excellent job making sure that he goes to the root of Islam rather than make wild guesses about the religion. His book is founded on solid scholarly research.
Go ahead and order it. Read it for yourself. If you don't believe Spencer is telling the truth, research his references. It's in the open for you to investigate. You will see that all of his references are real and nothing is made up.

To the nut-job (peace be upon him) who stated that most of the participants in the 2 world wars were Christians. First of all, that's not true. The Japanese weren't Christian, and I don't know how many of the German people were Christian, but Hitler wasn't and I don't think the Russians were Christian either. Anyway, the 2 world wars had nothing to do with religion, so I don't know what this guys point is.
Nearly everything in this book is highly questionable in the way it is presented.

Spencer wrote an objective perspective of Islam. Even Muslims throughout the Middle East agree that Islam's ultimate goal is to convert everyone to Islam, whether it be through evangelism or through violence.
Spencer's book is a work of art. I have a masters degree in middle eastern history and have found Spencer to be highly accurate in his analysis of Islam. The funny thing is that Muslim extremists also agree with Spencer's view of Islam. Many moderate Muslims wouldn't personally use violence to spread Islam, but they refuse to condemn the actions of Islamic extremists. Spencer treats Islamic history with respect but is willing to tackle the issues that others refuse to tackle due to political correctness.
Spencer's book is excellent and ought to be read by all.
If the West is to survive, it must face the truth that this insane political correctness is paving the way for an Islamic victory.

In the face of all the violence and terrorism that Muslims are now committing against many people groups around the world today, it is amazing that liberal leftist wackos are still calling Islam peaceful. Spencer exposes Islam for what it truly is.
Spencer's book shows how Islam started out with Jihad in their attempt to conquer the whole world. Muslim dreams to spread Islam through the sword resulted in European self-defense (Crusades). The crusades, although it killed many people including Christians, was necessary to hold back the Muslim hordes who threaten to conquer Europe and bring them under Sharia Law and slavery. Prior to the Crusades, the Muslims had already spread their imperialistic jihad into the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantines were wiped out and many Byzantine Christians had to convert to Islam. As Islam expanded in their first 100 years, millions of Christians were murdered. Yet, today there are no liberals or Muslims who are willing to denounce Islam for their war crimes and atrocities! Liberals and Muslims only accuse Christians for the Crusades but fail to point out or critize Islamic Imperialism and colonialism. At least with the Europeans, their withdrew from their colonies and allowed them to have independence. The Muslims have nevered withdrew from conquered lands and still hold onto them today. These lands include all of the middle east, northern africa, central asia, pakistan, etc...

A wonderful synopsis of historical facts, very easy to read, with comparisons to today's ongoing problems.
Once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down: looking forward to reading it a second time.
I got arguments for what I instinctively knew - coming from a country with muslim majority - as well as many answers. But there are still some questions that bother me: OK, islam hates west; but why western PC politics hates west? What is the PC politics trading 2000 years of western civilization with? Votes? Should not PC politics (in Canada and elswhere) see itself as the tool that jihadist are using to defete west?
I hope that when west is going to be at the edge of the cliff their eyes will be opened!!
I'm sure my comment will be blocked or quickly removed or "edited" from the site but I'll share my views anyway. The excerpts from the book noted in the review clearly identify the author as (1) an extremist bigot, (2) ill-informed or highly selective about how he recounts historical events and (3) most important, completely out of touch with reality. If I were to use the same standards of honesty in a review of the Holy Bible - which I know and love - I could write a "review" that clearly establishes Christianity as inherently immoral and filled with accouts of human degradation.
Has the author ever met a Muslim? I have. I have met many Muslims who were good, decent, god loving people. They love their families. They contribute to their communities. They aer deeply religious and decent people.
Two or three paragraphs later I realize that the author of this book doesn't merit the few minutes that it took to write this comment so I'll end with one more comment. The author of this book has absolutely NO credibility and shold be ashamed of himself.

As an long-time conservative I find this book offensive and unintelligent. Most of the arguments in this book would not hold up to scrutiny. It makes me question if the true intentions of the author in writing this racist book are indeed for American national interests.
The person that claims that many Muslims are decent people is correct. I know several myself. However that means nothing.
The question is not whether many Muslims are good people. The question is whether Islam is a good religion. The evidence says "no".
As for making a case against the Bible, let's see it. Let's start with Jesus, the founder of Christianity, although a devout Jew himself it must be said. We shall compare him with Mohammed.
In dealing with women Jesus was known to be compassionate. This despite the generally low opinion of women in that society.
While Mohammed may have been no worse towards women than any of his countrymen, he was no better either. The Koran gives permission for a man to beat his wife if she displeases him.
Jesus is known to have said "love you enemies, do good to those that hate you". When a village of Jews offended Mohammed he had the men killed and the women sold into slavery.
In addition the Koran makes claims about Jesus that flatly contradict the New Testament. It has Jesus address matters such as the veneration of Mary which is plainly a response to Catholic practices in the 6th Century, but was completely unthought of in the first century when Jesus' words were recorded. It's called an anachronism and stands out as plainly as would a version of the Gospels that has Jesus ride into town on his moped, open his refrigerator, heat a burrito in the microwave, then eat it while watching grid iron on the television.
Simply put the Koran cannot be trusted in matters of history. If it cannot be trusted in matters of history then I see little point in trusting it in anything else.

I picked this book up last summer, and was shocked that it was even published. Its a terrible recreation of history. Its hard to understand why so many Christians can not admit that the Crusades were a horrible event in our religions history. On both sides, Muslims and Christian committed atrocites, but the Christians acted far less displined in nearly every avenue of the war, take for example the retaking of Jersulem when the Christians murdered every single non-believer in the city. When the Muslims retook the city years later not an ounce of blood was shed and its inhabitants were free to worship whomever they wanted too. As a teacher, and a student of history and religion, we need to start seeing our religion the way that Paul and Jesus had intended us to, as one of peace and tolerance, and let us not forget that Muslims consider Christ a great prophet and teacher, whom Muhammed was said to have had visions of. Following these arguments here it is easy to see that even the Muslims admit that Christian atrocities were and are commited in spite of the teachings of Christ i.e. those who commit such atrocities do so against the teachings and words of Jesus.
However, Muslims who have and do commit atrocities do so because of the teachings of muhammed i.e. his words and actions encourage such atrocities.
There is only one religion of peace; that of Jesus Christ Prince of Peace. Any who follow His teachings will live in and for peace.
Islam by its very nature and adherence to Muhammed's words seeks to bring 'peace' (read; Pax Islamica) by destroying all dissent, which is no peace at all.

The fact that the Crusades lost the war shows that Muslims are violent and determined to conquer the world. If the Europeans didn't launch the Crusades, Europe would be Muslim today along with the rest of the world. Muslims were the aggressors.

There is simply no comparison. In Biblical history no man's station placed him above the law of God. In Islam the only law is "what would Mohammed do?" History shows that no deed, however vile, was beneath him.
The Crusaders did not kill every non-believer in Jerusalem. They killed many people, including many they should not have, but that aforementioned claim is completely false.
Saladin meanwhile had engaged in massacres (after the battle at Hattin in 1187 he ordered his Christian captives executed). He did not do so in Jerusalem because the Christian commander threatened to destroy Jerusalem and kill the Muslims there. Saladin's sparing of their lives was an act of pragmatism, not magnanimity.
How about catholicism? isn't it one of the most violent religions in history? Protestants? all christian religions have also done some big nice massacres. You cannot forget about that. I'm not defending islam... i really don't like this religion. I'm just saying that some major massacres in history were caused by religions and NOT only islam. I have spent a lot of time in the middle east and I can say it is a very well done book. It tells a lot about the Crusades. It didn't mention that over 90% of terrorist activity comes from islam. Not just us, but the ones caught up in Islam could learn a lot from it. The middle east could have great potential for good, but not as long as it's islamic. America needs to remain strong in Christendom, as the beacon of hope for the rest of the world. Now to help out the muslims, which there is a lot of muslims who want freedom from islam. His complete view of European history is out of context! As if only the Ottoman empire and other Islamic empires attacked the west? I bet the writer never has set one step in Istanbul or any other Islamic country. It might be interesting to know that the Jewish community has lived in Istanbul since the 8th century always in peace! It might be interesting to know that Turkey was the first country in the world where women were allowed to vote.

What seems to be missed by all here is that religion of ALL kinds have spurred most of the wars of the ages. The book adheres to a strong tradition. In fact, it contains just the kind of material that were popular among certain European intellectuals in the 1930s, although at that time the topic was Jews, not Muslims.

I think history would be more clear if we separated true Biblical Christianity from Catholicism which is a purversion of true Christianity. The Catholic church has been responsible for the murder of 10's of millions of true Christians because they would not bow before the pope. Who do you think the heretics were? They were not aetheist but Bible believing Christians. Some Protestants that came out of the Catolic church also persecuted those that didn't believe like they did. I'm talking about Christians that were never apart of the Catholic church. My purpose in making this correction is not to spread more religious hatred but to inform and hopefully for Catholics to be converted to true Christianity, not by force but by truth and loving persuation. I have already given an order for this book. I saw some guy wrote Bible and Koran treating women in the same way, as just possession of man. Do you think this is happening in Christian community? Christianity must be treated as culture or civilization rather than a religion (Christians have the right to reject and accept the rules in the Bible). This is not in the case of Islam, still ready to go back 2000 years and live in outdated rules.
Spencer points out the real history of the Crusades and the true relationship between Western Values and Islamic ones. This is done w/o the veneer of political correctness and without the sensitivity to multiculturalism that so often prevents people from honestly and critically examing the issues surrounding the relationship of Islam with the West. A great job and an eye opener for anyone who has spent their life being fed the normal pablum that all the problems of the West with Islam are the fault of the West or Israel. This book is an unparalleled reality check.
This book is so incredible that when I pick it up I have a hard time putting it back down. I like to read when at the gym and on the aerobic machines. I typically go for about 20 to 30 min. However if I open up this book while exercising I find myself going anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour simply because I don't want to stop reading. In addition to being so captivating this book has really opened my eyes to the terror that radical Islam brings. I was very naïve about Islam and radical Muslims and had no clue as to just how horrific they are. I am now aware of the threat they pose and so America has 1 more citizen who now is aware of the threat of radical Islam and understands that it must not be tolerated to any extent. I can only hope that the right people in power read this book and have the courage to do what is right. I’m looking at purchasing a few extra copies to leave in various places in hopes that others will pick up one and start reading. If you can do the same then please do so for the benefit of America and Christians around the world.

I come from a family that is about 90% muslim. My father was muslim. I know the muslim culture quite well through experience and will let my experiences speak for themselves and shut the mouths of the naysayers of this book.
I was never raised anti-muslim. My father never practiced it. He confided that he didn't practice it because they were all crazy. He wouldn't publlicly anounce such sayings as he would be disowned. There is the opinion from someone who was raised muslim. Interesting eh?
The only reason muslims may seem nice is just their facad (sic). It is quite customary to by smilling and shaking anothers hand while stabbing that person in the back. This was the opinion of an ex-muslim my mother met when I was in an orthodontist's office. That was one of the many reasons he became aethiest.
I have personally read the koran and can confirm that the quotes in his book are not out of context. I have read two translations that say the exact samething. Ofcourse the words were slightly different, but meant the same thing.
If Islam really is a peaceful religion, then why was it born in violence. He raided unarmed caravans for loot and women. The fact that he is a pedophile is uncontestable. His youngest wife was promised to him at the age of five, aproximately, and he consumated it when she was 8. I wonder how many times he tried, but couldn't suceede. Typical in this series of books, Spencer's pseudo-scholarship in this work presents "evidence" that Islam has been fundamentally a violent and destructive force in the world. The historical accuracy of his accounts is essentially non-existent. As a conservative and a Christian I take great offense at what people like Spencer are doing to my faith my party and the image of my nation. Liberals writing reviews here seem to believe blindly that Islam is peaceful even though world news squarely shows that majority of terrorism is caused by muslims. These liberals are blind and only think that Western cultures are capable of violence. The crusades was meant to take back what the Muslims have stolen from the Byzantine Empire (a Christian Empire). It wouldn't be fair for me as a conservative to say that all liberals are terrorist. To get the true picture people should refer to the original reference guide for muslims, which is the Quran. It is very easy for any writer to deliberately leave out extracts from a source to give a completely deceiving picture. By reading the Quran, people will get the facts with no additions or anything taken out.

It is evident that Islam is NOT peaceful. In reality, Spencer has successfully exposed Islam for what it truly is. The Muslims aren't finished with trying to conquer Europe. They want to continue the Jihad. When Europe falls, watch out America and the rest of the world!
It is also interesting to note that the quote from this article reveals that Muslims do agree that they attended to 'conquer' Europe, but failed twice. Liberals are blind to this fact and will ignore it even though this fact is staring in their face. This book as in any case an example of being freely able to promote ones personal views and interpretations. I recently received the book in question as a gift, along with several others, all of which I started reading the same day, so I might choose one to finish first. Mr. Spencer's book was far and away the best. It is a scholarly comparison, using known and accessible facts (the bibliography is quite extensive, and there is more "meat" here than in many graduate theses) that an enterprising reader can look to and determine for themselves the validity of. Insofar as the topic is concerned, this is no mere "hate Islam" diatribe. Throughout, Mr. Spencer calls upon the West to learn about those who have cast themselves as our enemies, and to understand their rationale for this hatred, for hatred it is. His book also details differences in key matters between the Bible and the Koran, a side-by-side assessment sadly lacking in so many so-called "scholarly" books nowadays. If you want to understand the why's and purposes of global jihad, and gain some insight into how the character of Islam and Muslims has been formed over the centuries, this book is both invaluable and thought (though not violence or intolerance) provoking.
The best there is! This is what should be compulsory reading for every politician, by every university student in the free world today.

I've not read the book, but I do have to say that this is to be expected of a "religious book". Everything is critized even if it were a political book.
Yes, I DO think that the crusades were absolutely wrong. I feel the war in Iraq is wrong and I feel that any extension of a religion that forces you to literally give you life to convert is wrong. Faith of a religion is one's choice. Shame on everyone for not setting a true example of their own faiths!
There are many extremists that do not necessarily have to be religious to be far off. Yes, I actually do believe that not all Muslims are terrorists; just at all Christians were not part of the crusades. All Germans were not against the Jews, just as all white people do not hate black people and vice versa. Stop this!
These were prime examples of fragments of a base religion. Check out Christian Reformation. If anything, I think that others did realize during this time that they needed to reform the church. Something was not right so they tried to fix it; just as we all should be doing now.
Instead of spending your time judging others and their faith (any) you should look at your own life and try to change yourselves by setting a better example.
This book was probably not intended to bash muslims, but to try to bring up some questions and points. No, it obviously was not written by God, but we are only fooling ourselves to think that we as humans could ever speak for God Himself in any area or aspect. Let Him do that in due time. We are humans with error and need to take things with a grain of salt. Just because someone wrote a book like this does not mean that you have to agree with him entirely or at all and does not mean that others will or will not agree with him.
This is a huge problem with Americans in general (and I am one) that we let others think for us instead of formulating our own opinions or ideas. Stop sterotyping people from any one culture or religiong and know that we don't know everything about life, people and religion.
We all live in a huge country where all people are trying to make a life for themselves and their families. Life is stressful enough than to have to be so hard with others than to see each person as their own individual self.
Christ provided Himself in death as a sacrifice for us to enter into a personal relationship with Him and to enter heaven. He died for EVERYONE. If you want to set an example of your own Chrisitan faith you are to become as Jesus was. If we are not, and we see ourselves doing things that He would not see to be right; WE are off! When we judge others, God will use the same measure against us as we sin.
Use wisdom, use your faith, and grow in the right direction of how we are to behave. You are to turn the other cheek just as Jesus did. Life is not about who is right or wrong, but where we are going, and why we are here. Personally, I don't believe that it is to spend out time being judgemental, to kill or to get in a tizzy over what is the right religion. It's a personal choice and that is to be accepted and respected.

This book could easily be used as a text in any college classroom on the history of religions. There is much on the histories on all of the major religions, but none is as clouded as the history and origin of Islam. It uses the verses from the Koran to justify it's conclusions, not supporting itself on mere speculation. You must read this with the Koran in the other hand to research the actual verses in order to verify its findings. The book strips away the facade of peace and holiness of Islam, and reveals it for what it is...a 'relgion' of hate and intolerance. Truely an evil of the highest order, filled with deception, domination and death, all in the name of Islam. Knowledge is power, and with this book, you can see the true face of our real enemy.
Spencer's assessment of Islam has some measure of merit, but in my opinion his coverage of the Crusades lacks, as it misses the most critical lesson of the Crusades. In his haste to lay all sins of the Crusades at the feet of the people of Islam, he loses sight of the betrayal of Eastern Christianity by her Western sisters that was the greater tragedy of that era. This failure of Christian unity was a wholesale failure on the part of both West and East, but particularly lays at the feet of the arrogance of the West. It would consign millions of strong Christians to Islamic assimilation and destruction.
The profit motives that drive Fundamentalist Protestantism today are very similar to the motives that drove the Venetians and their western allies to despoil the heritage of the Christians of the East. The Western Christians also had some measure of isolation from the depredations of Islam, and didn't have to live in its daily shadow. This disconnect and apathy on their part is analagous to the disconnect and apathy, most particularly in the United States, with respect to the true threat of Islamic "civilization".

Robert spencer is about as informed on islam as George Bush is on running the government. The information he try's to pass on as facts proves how easily manipulated the average westerner can be, which is a very scary thought considering the power they behold. I feel sorry for the perosn that actually finds this book informative and honest, if you want to know more about islam pick up a koran and read it for yourself, do not let people like this poison your mind and take you down the wrong path. I would advise all of you reviewers to support your outrageous claims with some factual evidence (names, dates, events, etc.). At least this author put in the work to establish his position. Most of the reviewers here seem to be quite lame flamers, with no knowledge of history and no skill in presenting a substantial argument. None of you can be taken seriously. As for this book, I wouldn't call it stellar scholarship, but the author is competent and his main points are fairly well established. And for the record this is not a review of MUSLIMS (i.e. people who practice Islam) it is a review of ISLAM (a religious belief system and collection of dogmatic teachings). Don't take it so personally, just refute it with historical facts if you think you can.
If you want the truth, then you can consult an Imam, a religious Muslim who has been praticing Islam all his life; practices that include deceiving non-Muslims about the truth of Islam. i have seen many books like this from all different sides of the abrahamic faiths...they all do the same thing. bend, twist, and display information completely out of context. as someone stated about muhammad murdering an entire tribe of jews and selling the women into slavery; this story comes 50 years after the supposed "incident" the story goes that after the war between the muslims and jews.. muhammad went up to a jew dying on the battlefield and asked him what he should do to the survivors.. the man replied "kill all the men, sell the women" now tell me, if your village were destroyed by your enemies.. would you tell them to kill everyone in your tribe? your brothers, uncles and fathers? and sell your mothers, daughters, sisters into a life of slavery? give me a break. also judeo-christian apologetics usually cite the above but forget to mention that this story was written down 50 years after the incident and also forget to mention that it was a jew who supposedly ordered the massacre. i encourage all to read this book (dont waste your money) and do an indepth study yourself.. as with all books of this type, upon further study you will see for yourself that "the devil is in the details" robert spencer, you are a slob to the highest degree...you are feeding into americans fears by portraying islam as the absolute enemy.. mccarthy sure could have used a man like you.
As one reviewer mentioned, yes, the Crusaders did kill Christians in the fallen Byzantine Empire. These Crusaders were ignorant and uneducated. However, that does NOT negate the crimes of Islam and the war crimes Muslims have done by conquering another 'country/Byzantine Empire' by force! The Muslims were the first aggressors and Christians had the right to defend themselves!!! The Byzantine Emperor asked the Western Roman Empire to help, but not get a timely response. So when Byzantine finally fell, the Pope decided to act when it was too late. It was in self defense.

I read this book after hearing it promoted on a TV show where the author was being interviewed. I had been doing independent study on the history and beliefs of the Moslem religion and current events, and based on information made available by Islamic teachers themselves I had come to many of the same conclusions as the author. While I am sure that there are many Moslems who are peaceful, kind people, the fundementals of the religion demand a world-wide submission to Allah, and to Muhammad's teachings, by force as necessary. To be true and faithful to Islam, you must also be true to forced conversion of the world and the destruction of Jews and Christians and any others who oppose or disagree with Muhammad's Islam.
I find it very interesting that the prohibition against making an image of Muhammad to prevent him from becoming an Idol, is applyed by Moslems in precisely the way an Idol would be worshipped: To take such great and violent offense that their "PROPHET" is characterized is to IDOLIZE him in practice. Such is typical of the twisted thinking of the Moslem cultural inclusions.

I find disturbing the vast contrast between the lives of Jesus and Muhammad: Jesus nevered married, Muhammad was married about 11 times, one of them was a 7 year old child (when he was in his 50's). Jesus taught that God hates divorce, Muhammad said you could divorce your wife by saying three times, "I divorce you" and divorced more than one of his wives. Jesus never committed adultery or fornication, or for that matter any sin, Muhammad married one of his step-son's divorced wives, thus, according to Jesus's teachings committed adultery by marrying a divorced woman, (the reason for the divorce was that Muhammad was attracted to her, so his step-son divorced her). Muhammad lied, stole, planned and led attacks against caravans, took wives and several concubines from the murdered husbands of those caravans-all historical and verifiable events, Jesus never killed anyone, Muhammad violently killed several people in battle by his own hand, and many more by his orders were executed. Jesus never broke a covenant or promise, Muhammed broke a treaty with Mecca and took an army of 10,000 to overtake the city by force. Jesus said love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, Muhammed said Kill your ememies and destroy those who criticize you. Jesus and his disciples committed many miracles of healing, Mohammad and his disciples committed many acts of hurting people. The contrast is amazing.
Actually, all in all, Mr. Spencer was kind in his book and didn't bring up some of the seeder incidents in Muhammad's life, yet as is written on the back of his book, he has to live in a secret, secured location out of fear for his life in writing this and other books. I only wonder how long it may be before I and others like me are threatened or silenced by those who defende Muhammad?

It's interesting that Robert Spencer chooses to ignore the fact that when the Crusaders first entered Jerusalem, they killed every non-christian in the place, men, women, and children. And also how he chooses to ignore how the third crusade ended only in the sack of Constantinople. By the crusaders. It doesn't get any more biased than this.

I will be buying this book to confirm what I already know to be true. A review referenced the Holocaust. Did you know that when the muslims invaded India over and over again, they committed so much attrocities that it made the Holocost look like a tiny event? They cataloged their loot and boasts of how much "infidels" they murdered in their God's name.
Isn't it interesting that any muslim or no-muslim who commented on this book, did not refute the facts, but only defend by criticizing Christianity and other religion. They are so brainwashed that they don't know any other information or they are too scared to seek other information. Then again, they are only doing what Mohammed did in his time, and that is, in order for his religion to have validity, he had to put-down every other religion (still practiced today), and then claim that God authorized him to kill anyone who questions him or the religion.
Spencer has written an informative, footnoted, fast-reading popular treatment of Islam and the Crusades, a polemical antidote to the politically correct or apologetic pablum that passes for expertise. While his arguments occasionally strike me as unfair, they are far less so than the usual discourse. It is a good introduction to myriad facts of the subject that quickly dispel many false notions (such as the absurd idea that the Crusades were unprovoked Western or religious imperialism) while providing grist for further investigation by the serious reader. If his treatment of Islamic religious doctrine is superficial, his treatment of Christianity is even moreso, though the serious Christian can more readily fill in for that deficiency.
A previous reviewer's assertions are false that Spencer failed to mention the sack of Constantinople in the Third [sic!] Crusade and the slaughter of all Moslems in the First Crusade capture of Jerusalem. Had that reviewer learned something about the subject, even if only by having read the book, he would have known that it was the Fourth Crusade that degenerated into a dynastic struggle that ended in the sack of Constantinople. He would also know that Spencer devotes four pages (pp. 135-138) to the damnable killing of many non-combatants when Jerusalem was conquered.
Many readers will first learn of Rabban Sauma, the Nestorian Christian monk who traveled overland from Beijing, ultimately meeting the English king Edward I in Bordeaux in the late 1280s.
Spencer's book is an excellent headline survey to quickly introduce general readers to many aspects of Islam and long-neglected or misleadingly treated areas of history from a legitimate Western perspective, weary of Islamic apologists and the anti-Christian secularist view as their only sources.
Serge Trifkovic's The Sword of the Prophet is more detailed, more scholarly, and evidences a deeper understanding of theology, written from the perspective of the Eastern Orthodox, who have lived and suffered most under Islam. It is a refreshing third perspective that deserves further attention in America. Trifkovic shrewdly notes that the problem of Islamophilia in the West is not love of "the Turk" but hatred of the West.
I recommend both books to begin one's survey of the area.
Any unbiased reader should read the original Muslim sources to determine the accuracy of Mr. Spencer's book. If Mr Spencer has used these sources then his work is likely to be close to the truth. These sources are the Life of Mohammad by Ishaq ed Hisham transl Guillaume: Oxford University Press) and the Bukhari and Muslim hadiths found on many websites (Not the book. I have a hard copy). I doubt many Muslims have read these sources. I have never found the seminal biography of Mohammad mentioned on Islamic websites. I think I know the answer

I have read it. It confuses the hell out of many until one uses the hadijj to place the material in its proper context. In other words, you have to study in depth to understand its implication. And I've done so.
What I learned from the Qur'an and the hadijj is that Islam is quite simply the most violent politico-religious belief in the history of human civilization. Spencer, in other words, is right. People constantly have a misunderstanding, for instance, on what Islam teaches about imposition of its system: it states that conversion cannot be forced...but it says that Islamic LAW, not conversion, CAN be forced; and should be, by its dictates. Interestingly enough, it states that "The People of the Book," i.e. Jews and Christians, may be given a choice to not be annihilated out of hand, if they refuse to convert, but instead can be reduced to a slave status that is all but intolerable enough to be worse than death. All others, however, who do not submit are to be exterminated.
This I learned from the Qur'an. Not Spencer, the Qur'an itself, through study of the hadijj. Spencer's book merely reiterates these realities to a public who does not want to hear them.
So many accuse people like Spencer of spreading lies? He isn't. The ones who have gotten the lies are the kind, decent, hardworking and loving men and women who desire to follow the commands of a kind and loving Divinity, and have been told Allah is just such a one. For these individuals, I do not have scorn. Only hope that they will research on their own, and realize the truth. Many Buddhists and Hindus already have, why can't they?

This book exposes Islam what it truly is and that is a religion of war, death, destruction and intolerance. You won't find any Islamic country with the freedoms that Westerners have to choose their own religion. Islam demands that believers surrender to Allah and that all infidels be put to the death. There's no hope in this religion and your never sure if you will ever go to heaven unless you murder a non-believer. Islam professes that Moses, Abraham, and Jesus were Muslim prophets but Islam did not show up until Muhammad founded it about six hundred years after the death of Jesus. Furthermore, Muhammad violated the teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus taught to love your enemies and to pray for them. Muhammad taught to kill your enemies. He also violated the 10 commandments.
I have friends from Lebanon, Kuwait, Egypt, Turkey and Armenia that read this book and all of them said it was accurate account of Islam.

Only 2 things could've drove this author to write this book. #1) Ingnorance or #2) Well funded by some source. If your thinking "Well, just maybe this author studied islam". I say there is no way possible this author knows of islam. I'm not a muslim as i am a christian. I've done an extensive independant research on Islam and muslims right after 9/11 to really know Islam upclose. This is a religion of great peace. Islam in its purest essence is a religion that embraces love, honestly, trust and brother/sister hood to one another...even to NON-MUSLIMS! I've met with muslims and built sincere relationships with them and they are very warm charming people who at many times can be very hospitality when you least expect them to. Yes, i'm sure there are bad muslims as there are bad chrisians and like all other religions but shouldn't be addressed to the religion as a whole. This author does just that. This book should of been addressed to the these small percentages of bad muslims in the least! NOT Islam! This book is another sabre-rattling, drum-pounding call to war by a Christian bigot. It is past time to lay the crusades to rest--they were botched butchery by primitives with little of credit to anyone. This call for war is being orchestrated by those who would benefit from it, certainly not the American people. The chief beneficiary is Israel but there are other pigs at the trough.
I recently purchased this book and read it cover to cover. It is a fairly insightful introduction to "The Religion of Peace" for the uninitiated. Although it lacks the detail to which scholars and professional academics might be accustomed, it is nonetheless highly informative for the lay person. Moreover, it contains a great number of references to both original Muslim sources and other commentary that will provide more insight to the interested reader. Reading the other posted reviews, I was surprised at first by the number of poor reviews. Then I read them and realized that these reviewers had not even read the book, and simply posted ad hominem attacks against the author while concommitantly displaying their irrational defense of the current fatah. I then wondered why the editors would allow such posts on this site, but realized that they did so to reveal the true nature of the West's enemies and their incessant attempts to undermine pluralism and destroy our civilization. I highly recommend this book to all readers who desire an introduction to Islamism and the threat it poses to civilization.

You, whoever you are can only be summed up with this childish yet appropriate retort. "It takes one to KNOW one!" The Islamic faith is based on CONTROL, DECEPTION and LIES. Muhammed was not only illeterate, but ignorant and a SELF proclaimed Prophet of a FALSE god to counteract the TRUE GOD of Abraham-period. In essence forcing HIS doctrine on the unbelieving or DEATH. I currently serve in Iraq where I am constantly exposed to the realities of Islam. I also have studied much of the Koran and found it to be a very disturbing book. Robert Spencer is absolutely correct when he discusses this religion and the dangers we are facing from it. I have yet to see any well written counter to anything Mr. Spencer has written. Typically, the adherent to Islam who criticizes Mr. Spencer does so with the foulest of remarks, poor quality grammar, and never responds to any of the correct teaching inherent in Islam that he brings out into the open. Our country needs to wake up to this very real threat that will not stop until it dominates all of us.
As a little lesson that many people are not familiar with, check out the Dome of the Rock Islamic shrine in Jerusalem. It contains over 700 feet of Arabic inscription within it. These are quotes from the literature of this religion. This shrine exists simply to discredit the work of God in Jesus, and to proclaim Islam as the only acceptable religion before God. This shrine was built around 688-691 AD, and is the "Abomination that causes Desolation" that the prophet Daniel in the Old Testament was talking about. Islam is the religion of the antichrist, and it will not stop until it dominates the world. In reality, Islam will nearly succeed in flushing the world down the proverbial toilet, and then -- Armageddon. As a poster that a Muslim activist carried during a demonstration in London read -- "Europe is the cancer, Islam is the answer", the reality is -- "Islam is the cancer, Jesus is the answer!"

I must first add after reading many of the reviews, I was surprised at the number of negative reviews with misspelled words. Not just a word or two, but numerous misspellings throughout the paragraphs. This would indicate that those writing do not have a proper grasp of the English language. That being said, I presume most are not properly educated here in the states. My overall opinion of this book is that it is very interesting. How boring a statement you may add. Interesting in that it gives an overview of the Crusades and Islam. It is impossible to read this book and not seek more information about either of the topics. Yes, Islam is a religion of aggression to say the least. It is obvious in the way Muhammad lived his life and instructed his followers, PERIOD. Jesus as the other prophet did not establish violence in one single instance nor instruct aggression in his name, PERIOD; regardless of what the crusades did, Jesus did not instruct this. To be fair, one must take on the Qur'an as dry and boring as it may be and contrast it with the Bible which is at times horribly boring and dry also. I can assure you, if you do not agree with the Bible you can shout it from the mountain; if you disagree with Muhammad (Islam), don't say it too loudly or draw a cartoon because you will cause pandemonium. All in all, Islam isn't about freedom or a choice; it's about a religion of aggression. I ask one question, when is the last time a group of Christians rioted because of a cartoon of Jesus or there was a march for peaceful Islam and the peaceful Muslims? JESUS TAUGHT TOLERANCE AND FORGIVENESS NOT DEATH TO INFIDELS. You will never see a peace march for Islam because there is no such thing or those who march would be targeted by radical Islamists.
If you want to write a review, use a dictionary and spell correctly to have an impact. Otherwise, people such as myself will think that you are someone illiterate or from a foreign country (or the public school system here in the US); presumably a Muslim country and you are writing a negative review about this book without ever reading it. In an Islamic state, there would be no right to write a review.
Read this book, but continue to look for more information to understand the topic so you can at least have a well rounded opinion on this and any other topic. No religion is perfect, but many are far less perfect than others making them appear to be cults!

Did the person who did not like Robert Spencer read the book? Can you please point out some of his lies? I am currently reading the book and am fairly well versed in history. I have seen different viewpoints, but have yet to see lies. Please clarify and let me know where I should further research to either debunk or confirm what is told as fact.
This was a great book.
Since Muslims are allowed to lie, cheat, rape, steal and murder when dealing with infidels (the rest of us), we can assume that Muslims who are writing reviews to this book are either ignorant (at best) or deliberately altering the "facts" to which they allude.

Mr. Spencer's fine writing skills share a story that Islamists don't want Christians, Jews, or even Atheists to view.
It reveals to me, as a Christian, that Islam truly is the Anti-Christ spoken of in Revelations (you know, that book at the end of the Bible). If Westerners don't rise up against Islam, we're going to find ourselves overpowered, outnumbered, and lacking the knowledge that even the Founding Fathers of the United States possessed. Thomas Jefferson obtained a copy of the Q'uran so he could better understand his enemies. He then sent American sailors on our best Frigates to destroy Islamic piracy. I have not read this book (I may never be able to read this book cos where I live this book can never get pass the authorities) but from what I gather from readers.
Typically, Robert Spencer is shallow, as are all people who despise islam...islam is peace...by the way, the likes of suicide bombers are NOT promised paradise, and Prophet Mohammed(PBUH)'s numerous mariages were not out of lust, mostly sympathy and the want to help others.
So called "modern day jihad warriors" misunderstand jihad themselves, just as Roberts Spencer does, jihad does not involve suicide, nor killing of women and children, hell cutting down a tree is forbidden!!

Why is it that fear must always breed hate? I'm not a Muslim, nor am I Christian, so I have a unique "third party" outlook on the whole topic. This is fear-mongering, nothing more. Both of these religions are hypocritical. Both Islam and Christianity love to preach about how peaceful they are, yet they both are responsible for some of the worst wars this world has seen and more deaths than the mind can fathom. How many passages in the bible speak of the followers of God utterly destroying those who don't follow their faith? How many millions of people died during the "great Christian age" of the Middle and Renissance Ages? Islamic missionaries were as bad as Christian ones when it came to "convert or die". How dare anyone from either religion condemn the other. They have no right. It's as they say, the worst fights are the ones between family.

A much needed book which exposes the lies and naivety of political correctness and the multicultural myth. Talk to the Chinese and the Saudis and see how well tolerance and multiculturalism go over in their respective societies. So, simple answer to that is, birth-rate. You're growing faster because you keep having kids. Christians have kids, but that doesn't make their kids Christian. But since "We" the Christians weren't told anything about Islam by our beloved TVs, and we never bothered to gather history, never mind the world geography, we have to depend on people like Spencer, Tom Clency and Ted Tuner for little input.

This book reveals clearly how the "peace-loving" bearers of the statndard of Mohammed started their campaign of world hegemony as early as 633 salughtering possibly 1 million eastern christians on their way, converting forcibly Nestorians and all Christians before attempting to conquer the West itself. In my study of Japanese history imagine my shock in discovering that by 1865 Japan's rulers hated us and had already decided to go to war with us. 70 years later we paid the price for not paying attention. My professor made it quite clear that unless you understand a nations history,
government, culture, religions, what makes them tick, how they think etc. you will never be able to deal with them effectively.

If one fails to look at things from a proper perspective and only from an ethnocentric perspective, then one cannot possibly write anything beyond more fuel for the fire of racism, bigotry and hatred. Spencer does a magnificent job in providing such fuel. Academically his book did nothing more than waste trees for his paper. Islam is a religion of peace when justice and equality are unalienable. As a long time student of ancient texts and 1st millenium history, I must say that this publication was spot-on. Islam has in its nature the dualistic, (and hypocritical), nature of killing for God while claiming to perform in His service. This has been seen since the beginning of Islam as cult-of-death with Muhammed himself as progenitor.
Others who have posted negatively about this book have provided no counterweight evidence for their standard fascist claims of misrepresenting history. This leads one to believe once again that Islam has brainwashed the gullible with arrogance and a false promise of paradise through "mis" deeds.
Note to all. God created life to be valued and savored in thankfulness, not to be thrown away as so many Islamic Fascist would have others believe.
I have not read the book yet, I have only looked through the reviews. I have noticed that most of the people who dislike the book, label it as hatred, or say that it is feuled by ignorance frequently mispell words and use poor sentence structure. I'm not sure if that is relevant or not, but I would not be surprised if it were.

I have not read this book. I believe there should be no religion. Look at all the problems that have come from it.
Many people have been quoting the Quran out of context in an effort to show that Islam promotes violence. A recent op-ed piece by Cal Thomas is a high profile example.
This is pure nonsense. Thomas and others doing this are taking selected passages and reading them completely out of context to support whatever argument they wish to make. I can do the same thing with the Bible.

I can say first hand. Making a mistake to listen to one enough that,I converted to being muslim. Yes am ashamed of myself, but we all live and learn,Thank God I learned soon enough.They do seem occult oriented.Although the rest, I never stopped believeing in the cross, so guess I wasnt fully convienced. I was told how to bring others to Islam, and I thought my mouth would drop off.I was told how they do it, they simply know about the koran,m they put questions to people,making them think about things,keep on and on putting more scriptures and questions out there, till the opponent has no more answers,then they will having them to converting. The way he was saying to do this, it felt wrong, like yeah yeah help us get this word out, and here is how you do it. I was done so right at the beginning by alot of muslims, treatewd so peacefully and they were so helpful and just overly kind. But as time went on, because I hadnt learned all arabiic and couldnt start using arabic to do my writing blogs into my pages to help others revert and or talk about muhammed, well then that made me what. anyhow tthe attitudes started changing toward me,wasnt so friendly, wasnt conversating with me as much, even being there in their lands, i dressed properly,but found how the ex- egyptian muslim husband treated me as well, like a pawn peice. and you dont make them angry or cause any extra confusions, or they turn from you up to days wiithout a word as if you werent there. I went with my laptop, but coming back, I didnt have it, the week I came back, it was announced of him divorcing me, while there, it was promised to half the expenses, well I ened up using all my money. I have to add for all you idiots...Women converts to Islam are not living in a Muslim run country. Percentages of women would stay converted if they went to say Iran would be 100%. They would never get out of the country. If they could get out of Iran after 3 months, how many would stay converted? John 3:16 For God so loved the world he gave his only son. Catholics say: A fine verse. Fundamentalists base every important difference from that one verse. The church I went to for 7 years made no bones about that being the most important verse in the Bible. My point is, I have read most of the Koran and both types of verses exist. Both that it is the religion of peace and that all non-believers should convert or die. It is what the followers use to guide their life that makes it important. The most devout person of any religion with a book the size of the bible/koran cannot follow all its tenets or emulate all its characters. It is what the followers choose to use in their lives that makes a religion. If Jesus had said it was OK to kill an enemy for any reason then you can bet there would people today who were killing for that reason. The problem is that there are MANY citable passages in the koran encouraging killing. And there many imams in Middle Eastern dominated countries using those lines as doctrine. Just as there are Imams in the US who teach the religion of peace sincerely, having chosen to believe those lines in the koran. 'Cause here in America, they can.

This book is so full of hatred. It is sad when people who claim to be Christians allow themselves to be consumed with so much hatred. I ate my liberal history teacher's lunch with the facts presented in this book, and turned 80% of my classmates in the right direction regarding so called peaceful islam. malcolmX was a muslim patsy, and his so called security stepped aside quietly as he was assassinated. peaceful guy that farakhan. peaceful guys those 9-11 hi-jackers. He will achieve all but when the reality dawns upon him then it would be too late. When death stares him in the face then there's no turning back. This intellect of man is deficient. I just purchased the book so it hasen't been delivered yet but I have read some of it from a friend's copy. I bought the book based on all the positive comments and more importantly based on the negative comments posted by babies who whine, cry and lie when they don't get their way. Every (religious) book used as the base for a religion can be interpretated multiple way's. This is just one of the ways to look at the Koran, specially done this way to "enlight" the non-muslim people.
Sorry, but this is not enlighting but just taking out the facts and read them the way you want to read them and feed the existing feelings towards muslims. This is also why there are so many directions within 1 religion, not only muslims.
It is all a matter of interpretation.
And oh christians are so lovely and peacefull. They did not murder anybody who refused to be Christian, they did not take over America from the Indians, they did not use slaves and they certainly do not abuse little boys, all in the name of one or another holy person. WOW -- I am going to get this book today. I was totally ignorant of the Islamic faith until now. As a matter of fact, I was one of those sucked into believing that it was a religion of faith. The reviews I've read are amazing and I am grateful to learn the truth. I used to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses many years ago, and I too would defend the faith constantly, even though I had no education about any other religion. Why? Because Jehovah's Witnesses are not permitted to study other religions. So they are ignorant of the past and of any other facts that may cause one to question their blind faith.
