Is Trump Still Committed To The Wall? See What He Said To Mexico’s President

by Bradley Matthews

The Washington Post has leaked transcripts of Pres. Trump’s calls with the leaders of Mexico and Australia. In a call with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Trump said “You cannot say anymore that the United States is going to pay for the wall. I am just going to say that we are working it out. Believe it or not, this is the least important thing that we are talking about, but politically this might be the most important.”

Will Trump build the wall? Vote in our CBC reader poll HERE.

Yeah, sure, Billy Boy, it’s much more important that we spend tax money on such important things like training Chinese whores to drink less and subsidizing fictional colleges rather than on such trivial stuff as border security. Not to mention that the huge influx of illegal immigrants, drugs, and criminal enterprises which not having a wall has allowed to helped to flow into our country drains a hell of a lot more of tax money than the cost of building a wall would.

You are assuming that the leaked transcripts (the timing of the release of which being nakedly political and underhanded) are accurate and/or not tampered with. In this day and age you can’t assume such things. But for sake of argument let’s say the section you cite is accurate (albeit cherry picked.)

Trump is clearly referring to the issue of Nieto constantly saying that the U.S. was going to pay for the wall as being what is the “least important thing that we are talking about” not the wall itself. Trump saying during the campaign that the wall was going to be paid for by Mexico was wishful thinking and fanciful and I am glad he now realizes that. As for whether it’s a political necessity for Mexico to do so, I can’t say as I don’t know how important it is to voters that they do. Personally I don’t care, but I’m sure the WH has more data on this than me.

If Conservatives truly care about spending tax money wisely, then Trump’s wall will not be built.
