OUR GUEST – Charlie Copeland

• Charlie Copeland is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute. He holds a BS and an MBA from Duke University. Prior to becoming ISI’s President, he served for six years on the Institute’s Board of Trustees, including three years as Secretary-Treasurer.
• From 2002 through 2008 he served as a Delaware State Senator, rising to the position of Senate Minority Leader. During his service, he emerged as a leading voice for government accountability, education reform, and criminal justice reform.
• Copeland currently lives in Wilmington, Delaware, with his wife, two children, and three dogs.

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW – Intercollegiate Studies Institute

• Predating organizations like Heritage and the Federalist Society, the Intercollegiate Studies Institute was founded in 1953 by conservative writer Frank Chodorov, with the organization led by a young William F. Buckley Jr. ISI’s mission was a 50-year project to instill the ideas of individual freedom and personal responsibility in the minds of young Americans. For over 60 years, it has fulfilled that mission.
• ISI’s work in cultivating students and leaders was so successful that Pres. Reagan said “By the time the Reagan Revolution marched into Washington, I had the troops I needed—thanks in no small measure to the work with American youth ISI had been doing since 1953.”
• ISI strives to uphold six American founding principles: limited government, individual liberty, personal responsibility, the rule of law, traditional values, and free-market economics.
