Bill O’Reilly’s Legends and Lies: The Civil War

by David Fisher, 368 Pages
Publisher: Henry Holt and Company, Jun. 6, 2017

From the birth of the Republican Party to the Confederacy’s first convention, the Underground Railroad to the Emancipation Proclamation, the Battle of Gettysburg to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, Bill O’Reilly’s Legends and Lies: The Civil War reveals the amazing and often little known stories behind the battle lines of America’s bloodiest war and debunks the myths that surround its greatest figures, including Harriet Tubman, Abraham Lincoln, General Robert E. Lee, Frederick Douglass, Stonewall Jackson, John Singleton Mosby, Ulysses S. Grant, Jefferson Davis, John Wilkes Booth, William Tecumseh Sherman, and more.

An epic struggle between the past and future, the Civil War sought to fulfill the promise that “all men are created equal.” It freed an enslaved race, decimated a generation of young men, ushered in a new era of brutality in war, and created modern America. Featuring archival images, eyewitness accounts, and beautiful artwork that further brings the history to life, The Civil War is the action-packed and ultimate follow-up to the #1 bestsellers The Patriots and The Real West.

I agree the war was not started because of slavery and the first man who sold slaves was a black man. It was the tariff taxes. Taking down statues and the Confederate flag is not going to change history. None of the people alive then are alive now so why continue playing the poor pitiful me and think about what your life might be like now if your birth was not in the USA. In fact you probably would never have not born because your ancestors would have never met. What your life now has to do with what you have made of yourself. Changing history will also not change that.

The war between the states was fought over tariffs , taxes? States rights,Slaves were captured by other blacks in Africa and sold to the Dutch, English, Spanish and other nations engaged in the slave trade. The colonies didn’t go to Africa to capture anyone . They didn’t have the ships to transport either. Most of the southerners were poor dirt farmers very few had slaves. Follow the money trail. As a former IRS revenue officer, always follow the money trail. If slavery was the real reason for the war why was it only brought up as The Cauuse in 1863 when the was began in 1861? John Folsom

I’m still angry at FOX News for firing Bill O’Reilly. I believe he was set up, probably by billionaire George Soros, who pays people to do whatever he wants them to do. I notice that there’s a campaign now to get rid of Sean Hannity. Bill O’Reilly is a patriot, and a good decent man, who contributes all the proceeds from his books to charities. I don’t watch FOX News as much since they got rid of Bill O’Reilly, even though I like most of t he people on FOX News. But Bill O’Reilly is the one that got the highest ratings of any person on the cable news channel.
