J. Gresham Machen was an American Presbyterian theologian in the early 20th century. He was the Professor of New Testament at Princeton Seminary between 1906 and 1929, until he left to establish Westminster Theological Seminary. Machen led a group of conservatives to form the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in 1936. He died the following year, at the age of 55, after developing pleurisy during a series of speaking engagements in North Dakota.
