Martin Scorsese’s Silence, coming out on Christmas, tells the story of the Jesuit missions to 17th century Japan, and the persecution of the Christians that ensued. Adapted from the novel Silence by Shusaku Endo, the film stars Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield, and Adam Driver. We’re including it on our list due to its strong religious and historical themes.
