Is Trump Still Conservative? You Won’t Believe What He Said About Our Constitution

by Bradley Matthews

In an interview on Fox News, Pres. Trump said “The rules of the Senate and some of the things you have to go through, it’s, it’s really a bad thing for the country, in my opinion. They’re archaic rules. And maybe at some point we’re going to have to take those rules on, because, for the good of the nation, things are going to have to be different.”

His comment has nothing to do with the Constitution. All the Constitution says is “Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings” (Article 1, Section 5.2). The Senate’s rules, such as the filibuster, were enacted by the Senate.

As long as the Democrats oppose everything he proposes, and refuse to compromise or negotiate, the filibuster rule may be a luxury we can’t afford.
