On May 9th, 2017, the same day that James Comey’s firing was announced, Trump informed his press secretary Sean Spicer and other aides of his decision.
There was no warning before the firestorm was unleashed. He brushed away the advice of his advisers and the firing was done. This forced his media surrogates and his on-site team to rush into overtime to fight back against the narrative perpetuated by the mainstream media that Trump fired Comey in retaliation for not indicting Hillary Clinton back in 2016 or to cover up collusion with Russia.
However, Kellyanne Conway noted that the decision felt Trumpian, saying “I think it’s very you.”
