Fanny Brown was known as the most beautiful woman on the American stage during the Civil War; it’s no surprise that she caught the eye of one John Wilkes Booth.
They met in Boston and shortly thereafter Brown accepted an offer to join John Wilkes Booth’s theatre company. Their intense love scenes on stage and adjoining hotel rooms did little to quelch the rumors that followed them, and one newspaper even reported that they were to be married.
