Bradley C.S. Watson

Dr. Bradley Watson is Professor of Politics, holding the Philip M. McKenna Chair in American and Western Political Thought at St. Vincent College, and is Co-Director of the Center for Political and Economic Thought. He is also chairman of the Politics Department.

He has held visiting faculty appointments at Claremont McKenna College and Princeton University. He has been Visiting Fellow at the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton, Visiting Scholar at the Social Philosophy and Policy Center at Bowling Green State University, and W. Glenn Campbell and Rita-Ricardo Campbell National Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. He serves on the boards of directors of several organizations, including the National Association of Scholars and The Philadelphia Society. He is a Senior Scholar of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute and a Senior Fellow of the Claremont Institute.

He has authored or edited many books, including Living Constitution, Dying Faith: Progressivism and the New Science of Jurisprudence, Civil Rights and the Paradox of Liberal Democracy, Courts and the Culture Wars, Ourselves and Our Posterity: Essays in Constitutional Originalism, Civic Education and Culture, The Idea of the American University and The West at War.

His next volume is an anthology entitled Progressive Challenges to the American Constitution: A New Republic?, forthcoming from Cambridge University Press. He has also contributed to many journals, including Armed Forces and Society, Claremont Review of Books, The Intercollegiate Review, Modern Age, National Review and Perspectives on Political Science.

He has received fellowships from numerous national and international organizations, including the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Earhart Foundation, the Heritage Foundation, the John M. Olin Foundation, the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies and the John Templeton Foundation. He was educated in Canada, Belgium and the United States and holds degrees in economics, law, philosophy and political science.
