John Koster

John Koster is an award-winning author, historian, and decorated U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Koster is the author of The Road to Wounded Knee (which won a Sigma Delta Chi Award for distinguished public service), Land of Broken Dreams, Presumed Lost, and Custer Survivor. Mr. Koster’s work is featured in many historical publications, including Military History, American Heritage, Infantry and Soldiers, and American History. He is a respected member of the history community, and his publications have been translated into German, Czech, Russian, Polish, and Japanese and have received worldwide acclaim.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Montclair State College in 1967. Upon graduation, Mr. Koster volunteered for service in the U.S. Army. Injured in Officer Candidate School training, Mr. Koster received an honorable discharge and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Most recently, Mr. Koster served as an adjunct professor at Ramapo State College where he taught writing.

Mr. Koster and his wife, Shizuko Obo, an award-winning children’s author, have been married for forty years. They have two children and reside in Palisades, New Jersey.
