Matthew Hockenos

Matthew Hockenos is the Harriet Johnson Toadvine ’56 Professor in 20th-Century History at Skidmore College and a specialist in 20th-century European history. He has earned Fulbright, Mellon, and other grants for his scholarship. Through the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, for example, he researched the Society for the Promotion of Christianity among the Jews, analyzing Nazi anti-Semitism and missionary attitudes.

Matthew Hockenos is the author of Then They Came for Me: Martin Niemoller, the Pastor Who Defied the Nazis; and A Church Divided: German Protestants Confront the Nazi Past, and he lives in Round Lake, New York.
