Michael E. Ginsberg

Michael E. Ginsberg is an an attorney in Washington, DC and has been practicing law for the past thirteen years, including in the areas of international law, export controls, and economic sanctions. He is an expert on the implementation, enforcement, and effects of US economic sanctions on Iran, Syria, and non-state terrorist groups. For the first ten years of his career he was in private practice at Arnold & Porter LLP. He then moved to the Government to become a national security attorney. He is a graduate of the Harvard class of 1997 with a degree in mechanical engineering and the Harvard Law class of 2002. In between college and law school, he obtained a Master’s degree in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford in 1999.

Although he started his career as an engineer, he is actually a historian at heart with a love of history and politics. He served for a decade in various roles in the Republican Party of Virginia, rising to the positions of 8th Congressional District Chairman and Budget Director for the state party, before moving to a new career as a national security attorney in the Government.

He is an avid reader of history, particularly American, European, and Middle Eastern history of the 20th century. He is also an huge fan of sports books, particularly baseball and football. Some of his favorite sports books include Big Hair and Plastic Grass, Dan Epstein’s wonderful ode to baseball in the 1970s, Dirk Hayhurst’s Bullpen Chronicles, and Bill Pennington’s Billy Martin, as in-depth a biography as you will find about one of baseball’s most compelling personalities.

He is married to his wonderful wife Cara, a native Long Islander and clinical psychologist who has enthusiastically embraced his love of the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens. They have one son, Andrew, a ten-month-old who is just learning to maneuver himself around. They live in Fairfax, Virginia. The family loves to travel — Colonial Williamsburg is a favorite location — and working on their Baltimore sports-themed man cave.
