Richard M. Weaver, Jr. was an American scholar who taught English at the University of Chicago. He is primarily known as an intellectual historian, political philosopher and a shaper of mid-20th century conservatism and as an authority on modern rhetoric.

He earned an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and did graduate studies there and at Vanderbilt University before earning his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. He spent summers at Harvard University, the University of Virginia, and the Sorbonne during his graduate studies.
