Should Trump Cut Funding To Public Television?

by Bradley Matthews

Trump’s budget includes cuts to funding for PBS and programs like “Sesame Street”. Do you think Trump should cut funding for public television? See the cartoon, and tell us your thoughts in the comments!

Vote on whether or not Trump should defund PBS HERE.

The constitution never gave the government power to give out checks for tv.
Also, perhaps we should all just give up tv, so we won’t be brainwashed by all the liberal/communist agenda being show 24/7.

  2. Danielle L Smartt

Of course, defunding PBS gives liberals and progressives more proof that the G.O.P. & Donald Trump do not care about low income seniors and families who cannot afford cable.

PBS has many wonderful programs none of you have mentioned. And yes, I know you don’t like all the programs, but there are so many others.
Travelogs on Italy, Japan, Grece, Poland.
Music from classical to jazz to blue grass.
Programs on DeVinci, and many more.

Don’t be so short sighted you throw the baby out with the bath water.

Something like this can give the liberals just what they need to sway an election.

    And less than 1/2 of 1% O
    out of our budget

Find it in the Constitution where it says that Public television is vital to the running of the country. Find one reference to state sponsored media being a role of the federal gvt and I’ll agree it should be supported by MY tax $

  4. Lyudmila Boring

Absolutely! Why should I pay my tax $$ for fake news and then pay again for cable, where I can actually watch some news? Cut PBS!

Yes and hell yes… retarded high salaries and total left slant across the board… not a balanced format.

  6. elaine

Yes. It receives million of dollars from outsiders

Good for Pres. Trump, keep up the good work.

    March 18, 2017,10:27 pm

  8. Paula Parker

Let them fund themselves , they receive plenty of asset from product line, advertisement, telethon, ect. Taxpayers should not have to pay for the elite to throw themselves posh events to solicit our money.

No cuts to public broadcasting. There are many valuable lessons for our children as well as good programming for adults. If PBS discontinued I would get rid of my TV as there is a little else good to watch besides nova and discovery

The Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 requires the CPB to operate with a “strict adherence to objectivity and balance in all programs or series of programs of a controversial nature”.[16] It also requires it to regularly review national programming for objectivity and balance, and to report on “its efforts to address concerns about objectivity and balance”. Do you think they fulfill this mandate as it concerns the Republican party? The nightly report is far left on objectivity and balance…Far Left…

I think President Trump is doing what needs to be done, cutting the waste and excess spending from the federal budget and bolstering the necessities for our nations defense.

  13. Lt. Robert Powell

Any programing that the MSM wants they can buy. After that, the leftist organ should be summerly sunset. There is no reason the American people should fund propaganda ( however artful ) against themselves. Moronic.

  14. Clarissa

Yes he should, let Soros continue funding these programs instead of paying protesters to riot , burn cars and destroy businesses. Imagine if Soros and the democrats used the money they use to destroy the Trump administration on arts and programs for children!

I’m waiting on Dr K to find some remote connections to this cutting of Sesame Stress to anti-Semitic attacks on PBS.
The last refuge for a RHINO cryptic liberal.

Cutting funds means reducing funds, not eliminating funds?

    March 17, 2017,9:18 pm

  17. Jim McGraw

Sesame Street has become an anti white atheist “multicultural” nightmare.
Karl Marx would be proud. Whatever happened to inclusion of white Christians that founded our country and supported PBS for decades until it became socialist communism and dealt the morals and traditions of American culture to the liberal gulags.

    March 17, 2017,9:15 pm

  18. Neal Olson

I have changed my mind; we should NOT be funding it!

    March 17, 2017,8:47 pm

  19. Neal Olson

    Maybe .. not………

    March 17, 2017,8:39 pm

  20. George Taylor

Yes. Not government function. Let Bill Gates and Warrem Buffet step in and find PBS. Country is in debt: 20 trillion. Medical and SSN is going broke.

    March 17, 2017,8:24 pm

  21. Terry

PBS has become to liberal for me, don’t watch it anymore.

Laura G. Holmes—about 20 years ago, a young man sent for a Sesame Street catalog to buy a gift for a relative. He bought and gave the gift, then several months later he began receiving mailings from the local Democratic Party. It turned out his name was also sent in to pro-abortion and pro-gun control groups. The young man in question was 10 years old!!

Under Gwen Ifill, who was a wonderful journalist; PBS turned more biased, partial, and MSM during the Trump Presidential election period. PBS at one time was free and balanced reporting and one that left opinion to listeners. I guess once you go left you never recover. I was a devoted fan of PBS for 25+ years but once devoted listeners accused PBS leadership of their left turn, they denied and it rapidly became evident, most of PBS staff and journalists were Democrats!! Don’t listen to them anymore!! If PBS would go back to fair, balanced and neutral reporting I would support USG funding; otherwise don’t see a need for reporting of yet more rumor, gossip and innuendo and Libertards views!

  25. Diane

No, I do not think you should. I have grandchildren that love those kid shows.

“Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit group behind the children’s television program, has struck a five-year deal with HBO, the premium cable network, that will bring first-run episodes of “Sesame Street” exclusively to HBO and its streaming outlets starting in the fall.(2017)”

What is the reason that “Sesame Street” is a defense for fund9ing PBS?

    March 17, 2017,5:43 pm

  28. mary ann

Yes they should be cut. They make plenty, why should the tax payer pay for just about every thing.

    March 17, 2017,5:40 pm

  29. Phos

PBS, NPR, LPB, and other broadcast arms of the liberal Democrats should pay their own way. If people aren’t willing to pay for their broadcasts through commercial advertising and they can’t pull their own weight, why should they be subsidised by those of us detest their PROPAGANDA.

As much as I love Public Television and even donate to it for such great shows as Masterpiece Theater, I must admit that I am not always pleased with the very selective “diviersity” represented by Sesame St. It seems to be geared far more to urban children and Black and Latino children than to midwest white farm children or immigrants of European background.

I rarely see anything that shows German, Polish, Slavic Hungarian or French cultural heritages. Most of the shows center around urban dwelling in USA with snipets of culture from Central America or the Caribbean Islands.

PBS and all arts if truly worthwhile would survive in the free market.

Why do you have …Post comment…..Why????? I have a right to my opinion!!

    March 17, 2017,5:02 pm

  33. Jeanne

Yes, Where do profits from films,, toys, etc. go?? Besides they run ads

    March 17, 2017,4:54 pm

  34. Laura G. Holmes

Yes, they have become another blatant arm of the Democratic party, like so many other television and/or media outlets.
