6. American Assassin

American Assassin, adapted from Vince Flynn‘s bestselling thriller Mitch Rapp series, is the terrorist-fighting action film we needed this year. It follows Mitch Rapp, a man drawn into the world of counterterrorism after the death of his girlfriend in a terrorist attack. With help from his mentor, a Navy S.E.A.L, Rapp trains to take down terrorism and champion freedom around the world.

Out of all of the movies on our list, American Assassin is the most overtly conservative, offering a fictionalized look at America’s very real War on Terror with a former-agent-gone-rogue plot. Between patriotism and Rapp’s warrior ethos, you’d be hard-pressed to find conservative movies more conservative than American Assassin this year.
