One of the most famous Democratic presidents ever, who was also hailed as the savior of America following the Great Depression, was heavily influenced by fascism and exploited the poisonous power of racism to consolidate his power, says D’Souza. Franklin Delano Roosevelt took advantage of the national crisis of depression to exponentially increase government control of the private sector, centralizing the state after the model of German and Italian fascists and winning political support for his New Deal programs by cutting deals with extreme Democratic racists.
Despite FDR’s glowing reputation, most New Deal programs, D’Souza writes, didn’t even apply to African-Americans.
