2) Whittaker Chambers’ Witness provides an intimate look into the life of its author, the titular witness at the famous trial of Alger Hiss. Chambers was initially a communist and a Soviet spy, but ultimately abandoned communism and helped seal the deal in the Hiss case. Witness offers a compelling case against communism from one of its former devotees; President Ronald Reagan credited the book with cementing his turn towards the American conservative movement. The “Letters to My Children” intro is a must-read for conservatives!
