Not every relationship — or breakup — went well for John Wilkes Booth.
His affair with Henrietta Irving began in the early months of 1861 when Henrietta was John’s co-star onstage at the Metropolitan Theatre. They had a torrid affair during the engagement. When their relationship ended, Henrietta came after John with a knife in an attack that was even reported in the Cincinnati Daily Enquirer.
